NYA Holds Orientation Workshop on National Apprenticeship Programme

The National Youth Authority (NYA) has held a two-day orientation workshop in Accra, for its  Staff  and officers of the National Apprenticeship Programme (NAP), to deepen their understanding of the initiative and explore effective strategies for its implementation.

The event brought together Staff and NAP officers from across the country to deliberate on key aspects of the programme, aimed at equipping the Ghanaian youth with employable skills.

Speaking at the opening session, the CEO of NYA, Mr. Osman Ayariga, Esq., highlighted the Authority’s four-year strategic plan, which includes job creation, youth leadership development, expanded economic opportunities, and promoting active citizenship.

He emphasized that tackling youth unemployment remains a top priority, noting that the Authority is investing heavily in entrepreneurship and apprenticeship initiatives to enable young people to work in their communities.

Mr. Ayariga also described the National Apprenticeship Programme as a comprehensive intervention that supports participants before, during, and after training, including the provision of allowances.

He disclosed that the initial phase of the programme will enroll 10,000 apprentices and stressed the importance of robust monitoring to ensure its sustainability.

Hon. George Opare Addo, Minister for Youth Development and Empowerment, also addressed participants, reaffirming the government’s commitment to reducing youth unemployment through practical skills training.

He lauded the apprenticeship model as a transformative initiative, empowering young people with lifelong skills and enhancing their contribution to national development.

He urged NAP officers to ensure the programme’s success and make it attractive for future generations, assuring them of the Ministry’s full support in its implementation.

On his part, the National Coordinator for NAP, Mr. Nicodemus Dery outlined the overview of the initiative, focusing on its goals and objectives, programme implementation, expected outcomes, and the role of management and coordination teams.

Deputy CEO in charge of Programs and Operations, Alhaji Inusah Mahama, guided the officers on some systematic processes which can be used in measuring and gathering information from both Apprentices and Master-craftsmen.
