NYA Deputy CEO Proposes Creation of Tailored Loan Schemes for Persons with Disabilities
The Deputy CEO in charge of Finance and Administration at NYA, Mr. Adongo Atule, has proposed the creation of tailored loan schemes for businesses owned by persons with disabilities at a Stakeholder Engagement meeting under the theme: Championing inclusivity among young people with disabilities.
Mr. Adongo stressed on the need for deliberate strategies to ensure that youth groups, inclusive of persons with disabilities, are created and actively involved in nation-building activities and called for the inclusion of persons with disabilities in government flagship programs. He concluded by advocating for the amplification of the voices of persons with disabilities, as this would enable them to contribute more effectively to national development.
The event, hosted in Accra by the NYA in collaboration with Sightsavers, brought together stakeholders from across the country to share insights and contributions aimed at addressing barriers that prevent persons with disabilities from fully participating in national development.
In his delivery, the Deputy CEO in charge of Operations and Programs at NYA, Alhaji Inusah Mahama, emphasized that the inclusion of persons with disabilities is not a favor, but a right. He noted that Ghana’s National Youth Policy clearly states that no young person should be left behind, and the NYA is committed to upholding that principle. He further explained that the purpose of the engagement is to bridge the gaps that exclude persons with disabilities from contributing meaningfully to national development. “Every young person, including those with disabilities, deserves more than symbolic gestures — they deserve a seat at every table,” he asserted.
The Country Lead for Sightssavers, Mr. David Agyemang, commended the NYA for the event. According to him, the initiative is important because inclusion is not optional but a right. “Creating opportunities for dialogue and joint action through workshops like this signals a serious commitment to dismantling barriers and creating space for every young Ghanaian to thrive,” he remarked. He assured NYA of Sightsavers’ full support in promoting the inclusion of persons with disabilities in national development.
