NYA DCEO Calls on Youth to Embrace Entrepreneurship

The Deputy Chief Executive Officer (DCEO) of the National Youth Authority (NYA) in charge of Finance and Administration, Mr. Jacob Adongo Atule, has encouraged young people to embrace entrepreneurship, take action on their ideas and develop the capacity to create opportunities for themselves and others.

Speaking at the Scripture Union’s (Ghana) Youth Entrepreneurship Programme Training, Mr. Atule commended Scripture Union for creating a platform that equips young people with entrepreneurial skills, strong values and the mindset needed to contribute meaningfully to national development.

He emphasised that entrepreneurship is more than starting a business, noting that young people must be willing to identify problems, develop solutions and create sustainable value. “Entrepreneurship is not simply about starting a business. It is about identifying a problem, finding a solution, creating value and building something that can be sustained over time.”

Encouraging participants to move beyond ideas and take practical steps towards building their ventures, he said:“You can have a brilliant business idea, but until you take steps to develop it, test it, improve it and serve your customers, it remains only an idea.”

Mr. Atule further challenged the youth to see themselves not only as job seekers but as potential job creators, while developing qualities such as discipline, integrity, diligence, financial responsibility, innovation and resilience. “Do not only look for employment. Develop yourself to the point where you can also create employment for others.”

He reaffirmed the NYA’s commitment to supporting young people through skills development, entrepreneurship, employment and empowerment, and expressed the Authority’s interest in exploring meaningful collaboration with Scripture Union in entrepreneurship, employability, mentorship and youth empowerment.

The engagement brought together young people and facilitators in an effort to strengthen entrepreneurial knowledge, values and practical skills for sustainable livelihoods and national development.
