National Apprenticeship Programme Equips First Batch of Greater Accra Beneficiaries, Signals Bold Investment in Youth Empowerment

The first batch of Greater Accra Regional beneficiaries under the National Apprenticeship Programme has officially received their equipment to support their skills training. The distribution ceremony was held at the residence of the Greater Accra Minister at Ridge.

Speaking at the event, the Chief Executive Officer of the National Youth Authority, Osman Ayariga Esq. emphasized that the distribution of tools goes beyond a job creation initiative. According to him, it represents a long-term investment in Ghana’s human capital and demonstrates a genuine commitment to tackling youth unemployment while empowering young people with sustainable skills.

He described the occasion as a significant milestone in the collective effort to empower Ghana’s youth, strengthen human capital, and build a resilient economy. He stressed that the programme’s success depends not only on the government, but also on master craft persons, communities, and private sector partners. He concluded by noting that beneficiaries will undergo a validation process to eliminate ghost names and ensure transparency in the system.

The Minister for Youth Development and Empowerment, George Opare Addo, stated that His Excellency the President remains deeply committed to youth development, hence the introduction of the flagship National Apprenticeship Programme. He underscored the importance of skills development as a pathway to empowering young people.

He further revealed that trainees who excel and meet the required standards may transition into the government’s work abroad programme. The Minister urged apprentices to take their training seriously and reiterated the importance of the validation process before stipends are paid. He also cautioned beneficiaries against selling the tools, stressing that they are meant to support their vocational training and long-term careers.

On her part, the Greater Accra Regional Minister, Linda Akweley Ocloo, stated that the programme goes beyond the mere distribution of equipment. She described it as a deliberate investment in the future of young people and a crucial step toward enabling them to transform their talents and hard work into sustainable livelihoods.

The National Apprenticeship Programme seeks to reduce youth unemployment by providing essential artisanal skills training, fostering entrepreneurship, and promoting economic empowerment through hands-on learning opportunities.
