Your power is real and your time is now” – NYA CEO to Youth at UN@80
The Chief Executive Officer of the National Youth Authority (NYA), Osman Ayariga Esq., has urged young people to step forward with purpose, emphasizing that “their power is real and their time is now.” He delivered this message at the 80th anniversary celebration of the United Nations, held under the theme “Powered by Youth – Building Our Future Together.”
Speaking at the event, Mr. Ayariga noted that the dialogue’s theme represents both a reflection on a shared global journey and a call to action to shape the future young people desire one in which they lead and thrive.
He highlighted the UN’s longstanding partnership in Ghana’s development, particularly its support in health, education, and national strategic alignment through the UNSDCF. He further acknowledged the invaluable collaboration between the NYA and agencies such as UNFPA, UNICEF, UNDP, UNESCO, and FAO, whose technical and programmatic assistance has strengthened the Authority’s capacity to effectively serve Ghanaian youth.
Mr. Ayariga also outlined key NYA initiatives, including the development of Youth Resource Centres across the country to serve as hubs for skills development, innovation, and entrepreneurship. He noted that the Ghana Youth Federation will further expand youth participation in decision-making at all levels. Additionally, he reaffirmed NYA’s commitment to promoting patriotism, digital literacy, and civic responsibility in alignment with the UN’s vision for peaceful and inclusive societies.
He pledged to translate the insights from the dialogue into concrete action. Describing the theme “Powered by Youth Building Our Future Together” as a clear call to action, he stressed that the future is not inherited but built and youth must be its chief architects.
Mr. Ayariga concluded by reaffirming NYA’s commitment to this partnership and urging stakeholders to work together to deepen international cooperation, empower young people, and build a prosperous, inclusive nation. He called for the Dialogue to culminate in an actionable and accountable Ghana Compact crafted with, and owned by, the youth
