NYA – Yendi Launches Youth Accountability Audit
The Yendi Municipal Secretariat of the National Youth Authority, through the Yendi Municipal Youth Parliament on November, 19, 2025, held the Maiden session of ‘The Chief Executive Address’ This event was organized to provide an opportunity for the Youth Parliamentarians and for that matter the young people of the Municipality, to engage and remind duty bearers of their responsibilities towards youth development.
The Municipal Director for the NYA, Mr. Abdul -Jalil Alhassan in his brief address, took participants through the idea behind the establishment of Youth Parliament by the National Youth Authority. He stated among other things, the need for duty bearers to involve the young people in decision making. This he said, is the only way the government’s reset agenda can be realized.
Again, he commended the government for the immense recognition given to the Youth of Ghana, by establishing for the first time in our nation’s history, a whole Ministry, dedicated to the welfare and development of young people. He passionately appealed to the Municipal Chief Executive, to as a matter of urgency, address the ever-worsening issues of insecurity in the municipality, relative to drug abuse among the youth. This he said, has the potential of destroying the human resource capital of the Municipality and by extension the Country.
In his address to the Youth Parliamentarians, the Municipal Chief Executive Hon. Muniru Sugri, highlighted some major interventions and flagship programs, introduced by the government of H.E President John Dramani Mahama, to transform and empower the young people to contribute productively in the Socio-Economic development of the Municipality. Particularly mentioned were; The National Apprenticeship Program, The Adwuma Wura program, Free sanitary pads for school girls, No-Fees-Stress and the ‘Nkoko Nkiti kiti’ program. He admonished the young people to take advantage of those programs, to become economically viable for the economic transformation of the country. After declaring the ‘Youth Accountability Audit’ duly launched. He admonished other heads of departments within the jurisdiction of the Yendi Municipality, including NGO’s and CSO’s operating within the municipality, to subsequently engage the Youth Parliament, to provide the needed information and discuss issues that affect their development.
However, he advised the Youth Parliamentarians to remain responsible in their advocacy and prioritize the development of the municipality and Ghana as a whole. Hon. Members were given the opportunity to ask some questions, which was adequately addressed by the Municipal Chief Executive.
Representative of the Overlord of Dagbon, Chief Bindana, also expressed his delight and commended the NYA for creating such an opportunity for young people to express their frustrations and hold duty bearers responsible. He reiterated the commitment and continues support from the Gbewaa palace, towards mentoring and developing the young people.
The second deputy Speaker, Hon. Baba Iklima, who presided over the session, officially and on behalf of the Youth Parliament, congratulated the Overlord of Dagbon, His Royal Majesty, N’dan Ya-Naa Dr Abubakari Mahama II, for the conferment of his honorary Doctorate Degree by the University for Development Studies - UDS. She also assured the Municipal Chief Executive and the Municipal Assembly of the unwavering commitment from the house, to partner with all stakeholders within and outside the municipality and to contribute their quota towards the Government’s agenda to reset the country.
