The Future of Ghana Does Not Lie in the Ground; It Rests in Your Hands” — DCEO of NYA to the Youth

The Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the National Youth Authority (NYA), Alhaji Inusah Mahama, has urged the youth of Ghana to take charge of the country’s development by leading, participating actively, and shaping policies that will drive national progress. According to him, “The future of Ghana does not lie in the ground; it rests in your hands.”

Alhaji Mahama made this call at the Grand Convocation of the NUGS National Youth Festival, held at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA).

He noted that the NUGS National Youth Festival aligns with the upcoming African Youth Day, which will be celebrated in November at the Accra International Conference Centre. Addressing the participants, he emphasized that the youth must not see themselves merely as “leaders of tomorrow” but as active changemakers of today.

“You are the architects of today, the innovators of now. But for this power to be truly ignited, it requires a trinity of elements: the right Leadership, the right Policy, and the right Participation. True leadership is not about a title or position; it is about influence, impact, and inspiration,” He said

He reiterated the NYA’s commitment to shaping and implementing policies that empower Ghanaian youth, urging participants to leave the event “not just inspired, but activated.” He further encouraged that discussions on education financing, employability, and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) should move beyond dialogue into concrete action.

On his part, the President of the National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS), Daniel Korley Botchway, explained that the purpose of the festival is to ignite youth passion in areas such as education, skills development, and governance. He added that the event seeks to encourage collaboration among young people while recognizing their collective potential.

Mr. Botchway also emphasized that the youth must see themselves not only as leaders of tomorrow but as leaders of today, capable of shaping a brighter future for Ghana.
