KNUST College of Engineering Pays Courtesy Call on NYA

A delegation from the College of Engineering at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), led by the Provost, Professor Kwabena Biritwum, has paid a courtesy call on the Chief Executive Officer of the National Youth Authority (NYA), Mr. Osman Ayariga, Esq.

The visit aimed to explore potential collaboration between the two institutions to create opportunities in the engineering sector that can drive economic growth through technology. Prof. Biritwum noted that Ghana’s innovation ecosystem remains underdeveloped and emphasized that, with support from the NYA, more jobs could be generated through targeted skills training programs within the engineering space.

In his response, Mr. Ayariga clarified that while the NYA does not directly provide employment, it plays a key role in coordinating youth empowerment initiatives. He proposed that the College of Engineering develop a short course aligned with the National Apprenticeship Program. This course, he explained, would equip participants with practical startup tools to train apprentices effectively.

Mr. Ayariga also encouraged the College to submit a detailed proposal on skills training for their innovation hub. He assured them that once the proposal is ready, he would engage the Ministry of Education for further support and possible implementation.
