National Youth Authority Commences 3-Day Youth Conference

The National Youth Authority (NYA) has officially commenced its three-day Youth Conference under the theme: "Igniting Potential; Inspiring Change." The event is being held at the Pentecost Convention Centre and aims to provide a vibrant platform for dialogue, learning, and interaction to advance the development of Ghanaian youth.

Delivering the welcome address, Hon. Paitoo De-Graft Desmond emphasized that the theme reflects a strong belief in the power of young people to shape the nation's future through their strength, creativity, and innovation. He called on leaders and mentors to create an environment that enables young people to thrive. According to him, the conference is not just an event—it is a call to action, a space for fresh ideas to be born, and a platform where bold voices can be heard. He commended the organizers for their commitment to youth development, aligning the initiative with the President’s Reset Agenda.

Speaking at the event, the Minister for Youth Development and Empowerment, Hon. George Opare Addo, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to prioritizing youth empowerment. He noted that the Ministry was established specifically to tackle challenges such as youth unemployment. Among the flagship programs introduced are the National Apprenticeship Program, which equips youth with practical, employable skills, and Edwumawura, designed to support and empower young entrepreneurs.

Hon. Opare Addo highlighted that this year’s conference is structured to promote meaningful dialogue and engagement. He said Breakout sessions will cover pressing topics such as Artificial Intelligence, climate change, mental health, and entrepreneurial problem-solving—all aimed at catalyzing positive change. He stressed that each session is intended to generate practical insights with real-world impact. In conclusion, he urged participants to not only listen, but to participate and contribute meaningfully to the Reset Agenda actively.

The Chief Executive Officer of the National Youth Authority, Mr. Osman Ayariga, Esq., in his address, described the theme “Igniting Potential; Inspiring Change” as more than just a slogan—it is a declaration of purpose. He emphasized that every young Ghanaian possesses a unique spark of potential, whether in technology, the arts, entrepreneurship, or governance.

Mr. Ayariga stated that the collective goal over the next three days is to ignite that potential into a transformative force that will shape the future of the nation. He referenced Article 10 of the 1992 Constitution, which empowers youth to influence policies and programs affecting their lives, adding that the conference is a step toward making that constitutional provision a lived reality.

In closing, he encouraged participants to use the three days wisely: “Engage passionately, question fearlessly, network intentionally, and dream audaciously.” He reaffirmed the NYA’s unwavering commitment to supporting the youth—not as mere benefactors, but as partners and facilitators in building a brighter future.

The opening day of the conference brought together youth and Speakers from all corners of the country, setting an inspiring tone with vibrant activities, thought-provoking sessions, and engaging discussions aimed at empowering the next generation of Ghanaian leaders.
