Demonstrate seriousness, commitment, and a strong sense of responsibility toward youth development ” – Alhaji Inusah Mahama

The Deputy Chief Executive Officer in charge of Operations and Programs at the National Youth Authority (NYA), Alhaji Inusah Mahama, has urged members of the Eastern Regional Youth Committee to demonstrate seriousness, commitment, and a strong sense of responsibility toward youth development as a means of advancing the nation’s progress.

He made this call during the inauguration of the Eastern Regional Youth Committee held at the Residency Conference Room in Koforidua.

Alhaji Mahama described the establishment of the Youth Committee as a significant step toward strengthening youth participation at the regional level. He added that the inauguration of the Eastern Regional Committee marks the pilot phase of the initiative, emphasizing that the dedication and commitment of the committee will determine the successful rollout of similar structures in other regions. He encouraged members to take advantage of their position to learn, work diligently, and contribute meaningfully to shaping the lives of Ghanaian youth for national development. He used the opportunity to thank UNFPA for their continuous support.

The Director of Operations at the NYA, Mr. Archibald Donkor, explaining the purpose of the gathering, stated that Act 939, which established the Authority, mandates the creation of youth committees to oversee the implementation of youth policies at the local level. He explained that the committee’s role is to translate policy into concrete action and to ensure active youth participation in governance processes.

The Eastern Regional Minister, Hon. Rita Akosua Awatey, described the creation of the Eastern Regional Youth Committee as a significant and commendable initiative. She noted that today’s youth face challenges such as drug abuse, unemployment, and teenage pregnancy, which, if left unaddressed, could hinder their development. She emphasized that the committee should serve as a framework to enhance youth empowerment and growth, reaffirming the region’s commitment to supporting youth-oriented programs.

Hon. Awatey also urged committee members to serve with diligence and passion, commending the National Youth Authority for taking such a proactive step in promoting youth development across the country.
